ATHENS, Ala. (AP) — A longtime Limestone County Schools bus driver has been suspended for five days without pay for using a cellphone — on a parked bus.
The Decatur Daily reports (http://bit.ly/1PqWy8s ) no students were aboard the bus when Debbie Hardaway used her phone while parked in the parking lot at East Limestone High School on March 20.
A school district spokeswoman Karen Tucker says a witness reported Hardaway to the bus garage.
The school board voted 6-1 Tuesday to suspend Hardaway, who has been a bus driver for 35 years. Hardaway didn't appear before the board.
School board President Earl Glaze says the policy forbids drivers from using cellphones on buses, whether it's texting, talking or surfing the Internet.
Hardaway did not return a phone call to The Decatur Daily.
