SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former Weber County judge appealing a ruling in a sexual harassment lawsuit brought against him by a former court clerk who was the subject of his love poem.
The Standard-Examiner newspaper in Odgen reports former Justice Court Judge Craig Storey wants a new trial because the evidence during trial was insufficient.
A federal jury in Salt Lake City last month awarded $270,000 to Marcia Eisenhour after finding Storey violated her right to equal protection.
In 2007, Eisenhour discovered a poem written by Storey in his office that said, "I'd love to harvest your sweet grapes," and calling Eisenhour the "most gorgeous thing alive."
Storey's attorneys say the poem was not a deliberate act of discrimination since he never gave or read the poem to Eisenhour.
