HILDALE, Utah (AP) — A former police chief in the polygamous community led by Warren Jeffs says he took direction from sect leaders and ignored underage marriages. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Helaman Barlow says he tried to balance being loyal to sect leaders while also doing police work. Barlow was fired in 2014. He has now left the sect and is working with federal investigators who are investigating a group known as The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) — Nine months after a landslide destroyed property and displaced families in North Salt Lake, no steps have been taken to prevent another disaster. With the city and developer Sky Properties dodging blame, there is no one to pay the $2 million remediation expense. The city developed a plan and offered to put forward $200,000 for the work. But Sky Properties has not agreed to pay anything.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A Utah company is closing a Rock Springs nursing home, and staff and residents at another nursing home the company operates in Saratoga are bracing for possible similar news. Deseret Health Group of Bountiful gave 60-day notice Friday to Wyoming regulators that it will close its Rock Springs operation. Attempts to reach officials at the company's Utah headquarters were unsuccessful yesterday.

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Nick Rimando saved a penalty kick in the 92nd minute and Real Salt Lake tied the Los Angeles Galaxy 0-0 before a home crowd last night. Rimando dove to his left to get a hand on the ball to earn his fourth shutout of the season. The game was delayed for an hour because of lightning strikes during the national anthem.
