NORTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Authorities are investigating a suspicious death of a woman whose body was found this week near a hiking trail in Ogden.
The Weber County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that investigators determined the body found Monday by a mountain biker is 23-year-old Amber Lyne Smith.
The Standard-Examiner newspaper in Ogden reports (http://bit.ly/1E9wYPU) that Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay says they are struggling to understand why family and friends didn't report Smith missing. She seems to have gone missing in early April.
Findlay says that's one reason they consider her death suspicious.
No cause of death has been determined. She was discovered in a steep, rugged area, but it doesn't appear that she died from a fall.
Authorities say Smith lived nearby the area and went hiking occasionally.
