HOOVER DAM, Nev.-Ariz. Border (AP) — Its name is "Inspiration" and Daimler Trucks says it's the first ever self-driving semi-truck licensed to drive on public roads — in this case Nevada's highways — not only for testing, but business, too. Daimler Trucks North America debuted the self-driving big rig last night with a drive — and a driver steering — atop the Hoover Dam on the Nevada-Arizona line.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Senate budget committee has passed and sent to the full Senate a handful of bills implementing Gov. Brian Sandoval's signature education initiatives. One of the measures implements a Read by 3 initiative that creates a requirement for students to read by third grade. Another expands the Zoom School initiative, which provides extra money to schools with high populations of English language learners.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Sparks man accused of murder in the death of an unarmed trespasser is due back in Washoe District Court today for a status hearing less than two weeks before he's scheduled to go to trial. The judge expects an update on Wayne Burgarello's competency before he decides whether to go forward with the trial set for May 18.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Federal officials are going to spend more than $1 billion to fight wildfires this year. The Nevada Appeal reports the U.S. Forest Service says the potential for wildfires this summer is high, especially in the north central and western parts of the country. This continues a decade-long trend of high costs, and means the forest service may look to bond management programs to leverage funding.
