RENO, Nev. (AP) — A study commissioned by the state Public Utilities Commission finds that NV Energy's smart meters have passed a variety of fire safety tests. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the utility commission's investigation remains open after complaints of the electric meters catching fire while attached to homes.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Likely presidential candidate Jeb Bush is scheduled to visit Las Vegas next week to help raise money for the Clark County Republican Party. Group spokesman Nick Phillips said the former Florida governor will be headlining the annual Lincoln Day Dinner fundraiser on May 13 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The developer of a sprawling Asian-themed casino-resort on the Las Vegas Strip says the property is expected to open by early 2018 on the former site of the Stardust Hotel. Officials from Malaysia-based Genting Group were scheduled to break ground this afternoon on Resorts World Las Vegas on the 88-acre site next to Circus Circus.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A $2,500 reward has been posted in Reno for information in the killing of homeless man whose body was found near the Truckee River a few blocks from the downtown casino district Reno police say the 50-year-old man was found over the weekend lying face down with blood around his face. His name was not released.
