COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A Coeur d'Alene police officer is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot while checking on a report of a suspicious person in a neighborhood early today. A suspect was taken into custody following a chase on Interstate 90 that reached speeds of up to 120 mph. The wounded officer, Sgt. Greg Moore, is a 16-year veteran of the police force.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The mayor of Boise is asking the city council for $2.5 million to pay for removing debris and waste unearthed during the construction of a new park. The Idaho Statesman reports that Mayor Dave Bieter made the request Tuesday to remove tires, barrels, petroleum products and other trash from what will eventually be Esther Simplot Park.
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Eastern Idaho authorities have identified the Montana woman who died in an all-terrain vehicle crash at the St. Anthony Sand Dunes. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office tells the Post Register that 32-year-old Sheree Eaton of Belgrade, Montana, died in the crash on Friday. Sheriff Len Humphries says Eaton and her 8-year-old son were riding along the dunes when the ATV rolled.
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A Coeur d'Alene school district curriculum review committee is recommending that the John Steinbeck Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" be removed from classroom instruction. The Spokesman-Review reports one board member objected to profanity and what she called a negative story line in the 1937 book about two migrant ranch hands.
