WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) — A Navajo Nation lawmaker wants his colleagues to consider banning retailers on the reservation from single-use plastic bags. Legislation that's up for public comment would ban plastic bags and impose a fee on paper grocery bags. It encourages retailers to provide reusable bags at little or no cost, or provide boxes to customers.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police have identified a man who they say was shot dead by a bystander after struggling with a woman while trying to steal her car in Orem last weekend. Police say Taulagi Matafeo of Springville was shot in the chest after he lunged for a gun pointed by an Orem man who intervened in the carjacking. They say Matafeo had prior convictions for robbery and assault and was already being sought by police.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Some professors say they are upset to learn that Utah Valley University President Matthew Holland has signed his name to a brief opposing gay marriage that's being presented to the U.S. Supreme Court. KUTV reports that some professors at the school say Holland crossed the line by identifying himself as the school's president in the brief.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police are investigating a body discovered by a mountain biker yesterday morning in the mountains north of Ogden. Weber County Sheriff's deputies say the body appeared to have been on the hillside for some time. Authorities are beginning to investigate the person's age, gender and identity.
