SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah police have identified a 26-year-old man who they say was fatally shot by a bystander after struggling with a woman while trying to steal her car in Orem over the weekend. Orem Police say Taulagi Matafeo of Springville was shot in the chest after he lunged for a gun pointed by a 31-year-old Orem man who intervened in the carjacking.

HOOPER, Utah (AP) — Police are investigating a crash in suburban Salt Lake City that involved an SUV carrying eight children. An 11-year-old girl who was thrown from the SUV and a passenger in the other vehicle was injured. KSL-TV reports that the crash occurred Saturday night in Hooper. The 41-year-old man behind the wheel of the car was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Some professors say they are upset to learn that Utah Valley University President Matthew Holland has signed his name to a brief opposing gay marriage that's being presented to the U.S. Supreme Court. KUTV reports that some professors at the school say Holland crossed the line by identifying himself as the school's president in the brief.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police are investigating a body discovered by a mountain biker this morning in the mountains north of Ogden. Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay says the body appeared to have been on the hillside for some time. Authorities are beginning to investigate the person's age, gender and identity.
