PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (AP) — Police say a homeowner shot and killed a man accused of trying to break into his home in Pleasant Grove, about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Officers say a preliminary investigation shows 24-year-old Christian Chichia pounded on the front door of the house about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, awakening the homeowner and his wife.
Chichia then climbed to a second-floor balcony and tried to enter through a door.
Police say the homeowner unlocked the door to talk to the man, but shot him once in the chest when Chichia tried to force his way into the house.
Chichia was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Investigators are trying to determine his motive.
The case will be reviewed by the Utah County attorney's office to determine whether criminal charges should be filed.
