SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Mormon church has issued its first statement that directly addresses the health of its 87-year-old president. The statement, released Friday, says "it's natural" President Thomas S. Monson and other church leaders are "feeling the effects of advancing age." But The Salt Lake Tribune reports the statement notes Monson spoke publicly and attended all meetings at the Utah-based faith's biannual conference last month.

SODA SPRINGS, Idaho (AP) — Authorities are investigating a motorcycle-on-deer crash that injured two people north of Soda Springs, Idaho. Idaho State Police says the crash happened after noon on Saturday on Highway 34 after a deer ran onto the roadway. According to police, 48-year-old Van Jorgensen of Lewiston, Utah and his passenger, 44-year-old Susana Jorgensen, struck the deer with their 2014 Harley Davidson. Both riders were transported via ground ambulance to Caribou Memorial Hospital in Soda Springs.

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A Washington man in custody on charges that he kidnapped and tortured a woman in Caldwell has pleaded not guilty to an enhancement to the current charges. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that Arturo Hector Mendoza was charged with aggravated assault, battery and kidnapping.

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — An 18-year-old charged in connection with a triple stabbing in Nampa has entered a not guilty plea. The Idaho Statesman reports Esiel Oseguera of Nampa entered the plea on Friday. Court records show Oseguera faces one count of aggravated assault without intent to kill. A second 18-year-old, Armondo Jose Leon, is also facing charges in the stabbing. He faces three counts of aggravated battery, plus two charges of assault or battery against police officers.
