SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Mormon church has issued its first statement that directly addresses the health of its 87-year-old president. The statement, released Friday, says "it's natural" President Thomas S. Monson and other church leaders are "feeling the effects of advancing age." OREM, Utah (AP) — Police say a shopper with a concealed weapons permit fatally shot a suspect to thwart a carjacking Saturday outside a Utah grocery store. Investigators say the 31-year-old male shooter was in Macey's parking lot in Orem, 45 miles south of Salt Lake City, when he heard a woman's screams as she was being pulled from her SUV by the suspect. The man told police he went to assist the woman and fired one round after the 27-year-old male suspect lunged at him in an attempt to grab his gun.

Police in Utah and Nevada are trying to determine whether a body found in a large suitcase along a freeway near Salt Lake City is that of a missing Las Vegas woman. Lt. Utah County sheriff's deputies say 59-year-old Siegfried Muhlhauser of Murrieta was being towed behind a boat about 150 feet in the air Friday night when he fell into Utah Lake about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
