LAS VEGAS (AP) — Dr. Donald Schieve (sheev-ee), the father of Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, died in Las Vegas on Saturday, four days after he was critically injured in a fire at his travel trailer in Bullhead City, Arizona.

Reno City Manager Andrew Clinger, in a statement, says the mayor "greatly appreciates all of the support she has received from across Nevada and Bullhead City" since Tuesday's fire sent her 82-year-old father to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Fire officials say he was inside the trailer when the fire broke out, and he was severely burned when he ran through flames on the porch to get outside.

The mayor skipped Wednesday's meeting of the Reno City Council to be with her father, who was a pathologist and ophthalmologist.

He suffered burns over 50 to 70 percent of his body.
