JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected Monmouth receiver Neal Sterling with their first of two picks in the seventh round of the NFL draft.
The Jaguars took the 6-foot-3, 239-pound Sterling with the 220th overall choice.
Sterling caught 212 passes for 2,615 yards and 22 touchdowns in 43 games during his four-year college career.
The Jaguars believe Sterling could grow and develop into a down-the-field tight end, someone who could learn under Pro Bowler Julius Thomas.
Sterling is the first player Jacksonville has drafted from a small school this year, following Florida's Dante Fowler Jr., Alabama's T.J. Yeldon, South Carolina's A.J. Cann, Louisville's James Sample, Florida State's Rashad Greene and Ohio State's Michael Bennett.
