CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois University has named former Western Illinois athletic director James T. Bell its director of athletics.
Bell is a familiar face at Southern Illinois, having been associate director of institutional advancement from 2001 to 2007. He succeeds Mario Moccia, who is now athletic director at New Mexico State University.
Bell said Friday he is very grateful for his appointment and won't let the university down.
After leaving SIU in 2007, Bell served as director of intercollegiate athletics, recreation and intramurals at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne until 2013. He was named to the Western Illinois post in 2013.
SIU President Randy Dunn said Bell brings three very important attributes to the job, athletics, leadership and fundraising experience. He said all are essential to a strong Division 1 program.
