THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — A former Thibodaux High School teacher has been sentenced to a year of probation for having sex with a then 17-year-old student.
The Daily Comet reports (http://bit.ly/1Je7owQ) 25-year-old Celeste Bergeron, of Thibodaux, pleaded guilty this week to two counts of prohibited sexual contact between an educator and student.
State District Judge Christopher Boudreaux handed down a suspended sentence of five months in prison and ordered Bergeron to pay a $500 fine and complete 32 hours of community service.
Bergeron had faced up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine on each count.
Since she pleaded guilty to misdemeanors, she will not be required to register as a sex offender.
Bergeron was arrested Jan. 7 for having consensual sex with the student at least twice.
