PELL CITY, Ala. (AP) — A fifth-grade teacher turned herself in after being accused of having sexual intercourse with a high school boy.

AL.com (http://bit.ly/1GBmQQw ) reports 32-year-old Ashli Gilley was booked Thursday afternoon in St. Clair County Jail. Gilley also resigned from her position at Williams Intermediate School in Pell City.

Police say the sexual conduct between Gilley and a Pell City High School student happened over a period of time. The reported sex act didn't happen during school hours or on school property.

Gilley was charged with a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19, which is a felony under Alabama law.

It is unclear if Gilley has a lawyer.
