MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Leaders at Central Michigan University have approved a tuition increase that will cost students an extra $10 per credit hour.
The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees on Thursday greenlighted a 2.6 percent increase in tuition for the next school year. The school says the cost for a full-time, in-state freshman will be around $11,800 for the school year.
The college's president says a cut in state aid over the last decade has impacted tuition.
Trustees also set room-and-board rates for the 2015-16 school year. A standard room and full meal plan will increase from the current $8,780 to $9,088 per year.
The school is the first of the state's public universities to set tuition for the next school year. Most schools typically do so in the early summer.
