MIAMI (AP) — Thursday is the last day to sign up for health insurance under the special tax-filing enrollment extension.
Earlier this year, federal health officials announced a limited special enrollment period ending April 30 for uninsured consumers who did not realize they would be fined for not having health coverage.
Individuals who do not have health insurance will have to pay roughly $325 or 2 percent of their income, whichever is higher.
Florida led the way with enrollment under the Affordable Care Act with nearly 1.6 million signing up, including first time-enrollees and renewals from last year.
After Thursday, consumers will have to wait until the fall to buy insurance unless they have a life-changing event like getting married, moving or giving birth.
