(KSL News) A big banner and a large group of people greeted one of the world's greatest mountain climbers today following his 18th Mount Everest ascent.

With cheers, Apa Sherpa knew he was back home in Utah. He just returned from Nepal, his former home, where he broke his own world record for climbing Mount Everest more times than any other human being.

Sherpa said, "So I'm very glad to be here, see my family and see all the, all of you here. See my parents, see my neighbors, see my family. I'm very glad to be here today."

His friend Jerry Mika said, "He did it in eight days. Most teams are there for 17 days, but Apa out and back summated in eight days."

Sherpa made his latest climb as part of the Eco-Everest Expedition, which raises awareness to the effects of global warming.
