SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has approved a bill that revamps the state gas tax. The Republican governor signed the measure yesterday. The bill converts the current 24.5 cents per gallon flat rate to a percentage that could adjust with the price of gas. The rate would start at 12 percent. That's the equivalent of a 5-cent increase from the current rate.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police search warrants indicate that three men who disappeared in November were likely murdered. The Deseret News reported yesterday that Salt Lake City police warrants say Justin Christopher was supposed to get $200,000 Nov. 1 from one of the missing men, 35-year-old Danny Gallegos. Gallegos was last seen with 23-year-old Braden Emerson and 34-year-old Levi Collins.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah authorities say they discovered $1 million worth of shoes inside a semitrailer that was reported stolen out of Portland, Oregon. The Utah Highway Patrol says it spotted the stolen semitrailer Monday at a truck stop in Box Elder County in northwest Utah. Inside the trailer they found about 5,800 pairs of shoes. Two suspects are in custody.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has approved a bill that will allow towns to adopt stricter campaign finance disclosure rules than the state. The Republican governor signed the measure yesterday. It will let town and city officials enact stricter regulations for campaign spending by municipal candidates. If a town does not adopt its own rules, the state's rules will apply.
