SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A grand jury had refused criminal charges against a San Antonio university police officer who resigned a year after shooting and killing a student.
The Bexar (BEAR) County grand jury declined an indictment against Christopher Carter, a former University of Incarnate Word police corporal who shot and killed 23-year-old student Robert Cameron Redus in December 2013.
University Chancellor Denise Doyle said in a statement that the decision affirms that Carter was acting in accordance with his duties.
Carter shot Redus five times, including once in the back, outside the student's Alamo Heights apartment. Carter has said he stopped Redus because of erratic driving. That led to a physical confrontation and the shooting.
Redus' family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Carter.
