Utah colleges host events centered around women

SALT LAKE CITY — In honor of women around the world, Utah universities are offering many resources that people may not be aware of. Some are direct results, while others are recurring events aimed at women.

As a way to empower women to progress in their community and careers, students and others in the community are encouraged to actively engage in the events.

Brigham Young University

BYU Women's Conference

BYU will be hosting over 200 presenters for a two-day conference. The conference is the “largest gathering of LDS women in the world.” Topics such as womanhood and sisterhood, gospel principles, marriage, family, etc., will be focused on during the event.

Women of all ages are invited to attend the event April 30 and May 1. Visit the website for registration details.

University of Utah

Women's Leadership Summit

Women’s Leadership Summit focuses on helping women feel confident in pursuing leadership roles in their career paths. During the conference, “the program will include a keynote speaker, program sessions and the opportunity to network with others interested in supporting women’s leadership.”

The Honors College Creative Solutions Mentoring LuncheonThe U. of U. will host a luncheon for students to “meet local women leaders in business, nonprofit, art, community leadership, and activism for small group discussions.” During these discussions, students will learn about career opportunities and engage in networking with the speakers.

Utah Valley University

She Tech Explorer Day

Girls grades 9 through 12 are invited to interact with different companies focused on technological careers. During the one-day event, the girls will explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) career paths. The goal for the conference is to “expose girls to technology in a fun atmosphere as well as meet STEM role models to learn more about opportunities in those fields.”

Expanding Your Horizon

The Women’s Success Center will be hosting a conference for girls 6th through 10th grades for STEM-focused degrees. According to the site, “conference participants may choose from 50 hands-on, interactive workshops led by professional women.”

Weber State University

Weber State University will have a variety of presentations mainly focusing on identifying and building healthy relationships. The Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships presentation will be on March 25 and the Sexual Harassment & Domestic Violence presentation will be on April 22.
