Marc Giauque reportingHighway Patrol troopers are looking for the driver of a car who may have been involved in road rage or a race right before a fiery crash.
A car left the freeway at I-215 and about 1700 North early Thursday. Witnesses say it hit the median and started burning.
"As it started it went really quick and it consumed it [the car]. By the time our troopers got there, the car was fully engulfed and they couldn't get any closer to it," said Trooper Cameron Roden.
He says inside was 18-year-old Francisco Mendez. It isn't known if he died in the crash or the fire.
Witnesses tell troopers someone driving a red compact car was either racing with or involved in a possible road rage incident with Mendez.
Troopers are hoping more witnesses can help them find that car.
