SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch has shed tears as he deals with the news that Sen. Edward Kennedy has a brain tumor.

In Washington, Hatch tells the Deseret News that he loves Kennedy "like a brother." He says the news is terrible.

Hatch, of course, is a Republican, and Kennedy is a liberal Democrat from Massachusetts. But they have forged a friendship during their decades in the Senate, especially on committees. Hatch says he and Kennedy have passed much legislation together.

Utah's other senator, Bob Bennett, isn't as close to Kennedy but says he's praying for him and his family.
