Xavier stifles Marquette, 64-44

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Trevon Bluiett scored 14 points, Matt Stainbrook added 13 and six rebounds, and Xavier cruised to a 64-44 victory over Marquette on Tuesday night.

J.P. Macura had 11 points off the bench and Myles Davis 10 for Xavier (16-9, 7-6 Big East). In the Musketeers 16 wins this season, they are outscoring opponents by an average of 18.2 points per game, and are 11-1 when holding foes below 70 points.

Both teams shot below 40 percent, but Xavier won the rebounding battle 40-29 and finished plus-11 in points at the free throw line.

Xavier led 28-25 at the break, and scored the first eight points of the second half to open a double digit lead. The Musketeers closed on an 8-1 stretch to push the lead to 20.

Duane Wilson led Marquette (11-13, 3-9) with 12 points. Marquette leading scorer Matt Carlino missed his second straight game with a concussion.
