BOSTON (AP) — Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night? Not exactly. The U.S. Postal Service says it won't be delivering mail to a large swath of the Northeast.

Spokeswoman Christine Dugas says service will be suspended today in Connecticut, Rhode Island, southeastern and western Massachusetts and Long Island, New York, because of the snowstorm.

Dugas says deliveries "will resume on Wednesday where it is safe to do so."

The Postal Service reminds people they need to clear, salt and sand the path to their mailboxes — especially on steps or icy sidewalks.

People who have curbside mailboxes must clear away enough snow for the carrier to be able to drive up to the box, place the mail inside and pull safely away from the box without backing up.
