HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — John Brown scored 15 points and led three players in double figure scoring as High Point won a first-place showdown with UNC Asheville, 72-51 on Saturday night.
The Panthers maintained a share of first place in the Big South Conference with the win. Five teams shared the conference lead going into Saturday's action. Coastal Carolina beat Presbyterian to maintain a share and Charleston Southern beat Gardner-Webb in another first-place showdown.
High Point took the lead for good when Anthony Lindauer made a 3-pointer with 9:35 left in the first half. The Panthers pushed it to a 36-24 advantage at intermission and led by as many as 24 points in the second half.
The Panthers (15-5, 6-2) shot 51.8 percent from the field (29 of 56), including 5 of 13 from beyond the arc.
Sam Hughes scored 14 points to lead the Bulldogs (9-10, 5-3).
