Yemen' president, prime minister and the cabinet have all resigned. The State Department says it has reduced the number of personnel working at the U.S. Embassy but a senior department official says it remains open.
WASHINGTON (AP) — An important U.S. ally and a major force in the Muslim world is dead. Saudi state TV says King Abdullah died. President Barack Obama has expressed condolences and offered sympathy to the Saudi people. Obama, who visited with the ailing monarch last March, praised the 90-year-old Abdullah for taking "bold steps" in advancing the Arab Peace Initiative.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans have pushed broadened abortion restrictions through the House after a GOP rebellion forced leaders into a retreat on an earlier version. By a near party-line 242-179 vote, the House voted to permanently forbid federal funds for most abortion coverage. The vote came today as anti-abortion protesters swarmed Washington in the annual March for Life.
BRILLIANT, Ohio (AP) — Three children are dead after a fire swept through a trailer home in eastern Ohio. The Jefferson County sheriff says their mother was removing a burning kerosene heater from the trailer today when she dropped it, causing fuel to spill and the fire to spread. The sheriff says the woman tried to throw the children out of the window but she fell out and couldn't get back in.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The NFL is continuing its investigation into whether the Super Bowl-bound New England Patriots broke league rules by deflating footballs the team used in last week's AFC championship game. Both Patriots coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady say they have no explanation for how the balls were underinflated by 2 pounds per square inch.
