ODESSA, Texas (AP) — A Texas prison guard critically injured in a prison bus wreck that killed 10 people has been removed from intensive care.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark says Corrections Officer Jason Self was upgraded Thursday from critical to stable condition. Self will continue to receive treatment at the University Medical Center in Lubbock.
Self and four inmates survived the Jan. 14 prison bus accident on icy Interstate 20 near Odessa. Two guards and eight prisoners were killed.
The injured prisoners have been transferred from Medical Center Hospital in Odessa to prison medical facilities.
