PAGE, Ariz. (AP) — Officials at a national recreation area on the Arizona-Utah border are proposing gradual increases in entrance fees.
The cost for camping and boating at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area also could go up.
The proposed fee rates would be phased in annually over three years starting in May. Single vehicle entrance fees now are $15 but could double by March 2017.
The public comment period ends Jan. 31.
The National Park Service is giving park units across the country an opportunity to boost fees. The agency is trying to bring in more money for visitor services and start addressing a backlog of projects ahead of its centennial.
Visitors starting paying recreation fees at Glen Canyon in 1998. The last increase was in 2006.
