Rorschach, Switzerland (dpa) - A Swiss theologian is to be ordained Switzerland's first female Roman Catholic priest in defiance of church rules, reports said Friday.
Theologian Monika Wyss is due to be ordained in a ceremony on Saturday along with two other women, all of whom risk excommunication by Rome.
The move breaks with the Catholic Church's age-old tradition of an all-male clergy.
A spokeswoman for a group representing female Roman Catholic priests in western Europe said that any parish making its church available for such ordinations must count on facing serious consequences.
