FERNLEY, Nev. (AP) — Two Wadsworth women have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian dead in Fernley.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says a 28-year-old woman also from Wadsworth was struck and killed by a pickup truck at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday while walking near State Route 427 just off U.S. Interstate 80 in Fernley.
Trooper David Gibson said in a statement Wednesday the beige 2002 Chevy pickup fled the scene through the desert but later was stopped by a Lyon County sheriff's deputy on I-80 just west of Fernley.
Gibson says two women in the pickup were booked into the Lyon County jail on unspecified charges related to the tragedy. He says alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor in the accident about half mile north of the Love's gas station.
