LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — QJ Peterson led six Keydets in double figures with 19 points as VMI cruised past Johnson University 124-42 on Tuesday night for the largest margin of victory in school history.
The Keydets scored the first 28 points of the game and led 62-16 at halftime. The Royals' 33 points represented the fewest allowed by VMI since 2004.
Jordan Weethee added 17 points for VMI, Craig Hinton scored 16, Tim Marshall and Trey Chapman 14 apiece and Armani Branch 12. The Keydets (2-1) made 21 of 46 3-point attempts for 45.7 percent and shot 52.4 percent overall with a 43-of-82 performance. The 21 3-pointers tied the third-best mark in school history.
The Royals, members of the National Christian College Athletic Association, didn't have a scorer in double figures, making only 14 of 63 shots for 22.2 percent. The Royals also had 30 turnovers.
