Nicole Gonzales reportingSalt Lake County Sheriff's deputies are looking for the cause of a fatal crash in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
Deputies say 16-year-old Mowlid Ali of South Jordan was driving on the main road near Snowbird just before midnight. Then, for some reason, the car went over the edge, down a 60-foot cliff.
Ali was killed instantly.
Investigators say drugs and alcohol weren't factors, but speed may have played a part in the crash.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Jason Johnson said, "These canyons are very dangerous at night. It's easy to underestimate these turns and especially as dark as it gets up here at night time."
There were no witnesses to the crash, and deputies say it could be weeks before they know what caused the accident.
