NEW YORK, Jun 22, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- "My Name Is Rachel Corrie," a solo performance about an American demonstrator killed by an Israeli bulldozer in the Gaza Strip, has found a New York venue.

The play, which was acclaimed at the Royal Court Theater in London, was supposed to have opened March 22 at the New York Theater Workshop.

James C. Nicola, the workshop's artistic director, decided to postpone the show to next season after realizing how controversial the subject matter was, the New York Times reported. The Royal Court responded it considered the postponement a cancellation.

Many in the American theater community were outraged by the cancellation, including playwrights Harold Pinter and Tony Kushner and the actress Vanessa Redgrave, known for her support of Palestinian rights.

"Rachel Corrie" was moved to the Playhouse Theater in the West End for a nine-week run ending May 20. It will enjoy 48 performances at the Minetta Lane Theater in Greenwich Village beginning previews Oct. 5.

"It feels like that's its rightful home, and we're obviously delighted that things are once again moving in that direction." said Ewan Thomson, a spokesman for the Royal Court.
