LANSING, Mich. (AP) — At least a dozen Ebola isolation units made in Lansing are headed to West Africa.

The Lansing State Journal reports (http://on.lsj.com/1Ey3IEs ) Plas-Labs of Lansing has modified its decades-old isolation unit model with filtration devices designed to contain the Ebola virus to allow researchers or health professionals to test what's inside. Plas-Labs President Dave Regan says the first of a dozen units has already arrived in Sierra Leone, where Ebola had killed about 1,100 people as of Friday.

Regan says about $75,000 worth of units has been shipped so far. He says the company is hiring a new employee to add to its staff of fewer than 50 people because of the added work.

Plas-Labs has been making the airtight plastic boxes fitted with gloves extending inside since 1967.
