DALLAS (AP) — The woman in the east Dallas apartment where Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan stayed between hospital visits says she's tired of being "locked up." Louise Troh is being quarantined with her 13-year-old son and nephews. Health officials say containment will help ensure that the four can be closely watched, including checking them for fevers over the next three weeks.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A federal appeals court is giving Texas permission to fully enforce a sweeping abortion law signed by Gov. Rick Perry last year. The law would effectively close all but seven abortion facilities. A lower court ruling in August had blocked requirements that clinics must meet hospital-level operating standards. The appeals court decision is only a stay pending a full appeal.
NEW YORK (AP) — JPMorgan Chase & Co. says a data breach this summer affected 76 million households and 7 million small businesses. But the bank says there is no evidence that account information for the affected customers, such as account numbers, passwords or Social Security numbers, was stolen. The bank says it has not seen any unusual customer fraud related to the hack.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Attorneys for the state of North Carolina are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the state to carry out two key voting changes for the fall election. The state wants the Court to block Wednesday's split decision by a federal appeals panel that said the changes could not be implemented. Critics of the changes say they would disenfranchise minority voters.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Lawyers for thousands of former football players involved in NFL concussion litigation say nine have opted out of the proposed settlement. The deadline to opt out is Oct. 14, although some retirees want it delayed until after a final court review next month. The NFL has agreed to pay at least $765 million over 65 years. About 20,000 ex-players would be covered by the agreement.
