MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Supporters and opponents of proposed guidelines for transgender student-athletes to participate in high school sports in Minnesota are appealing to officials ahead of a vote on the proposal.
About 150 people attended a meeting of the Minnesota State High School League on Wednesday where parents, students and advocates voiced opinions for more than 90 minutes. The league is expected to vote Thursday.
League executive director Dave Stead says officials have received about 10,000 emails on the proposal. He tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Wednesday's forum was "a really good exchange of information" but some confusion remains about policies that are left up to individual schools.
The Star Tribune reports Stead debunked a Minnesota Child Protection League ad that warns that boys would be allowed to shower with girls in locker rooms.
