HANKSVILLE, Utah (AP) — Authorities in Utah say a 70-year-old hiker collapsed and died in Canyonlands National Park in spite of his daughter's attempts to revive him.
Wayne County deputies say Karl George Mayne of Conifer, Colorado was pronounced dead a little after 7 p.m. on Monday.
Authorities say Mayne and his daughter were hiking back to the parking lot in the Horseshoe Canyon area when he fainted. His daughter started performing CPR and continued for nearly an hour.
Medics who responded pronounced Mayne dead at the scene that evening.
His body was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Deputies say the man didn't have a history of heart problems, but had lung issues and was taking medication for another health problem.
