Italian publisher Mondadori, part of the Fininvest empire of former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, said Monday it was buying Emap France, a subsidiary of Emap plc, for 545 million euros (685 million dollars).
British publishing giant Emap said last week that it was in "exclusive negotiations" with Italian media company Arnoldo Mondadori Editore on the sale of its French consumer magazines business.
The company added in a brief statement to the London Stock Exchange that it planned to return proceeds from the sale to Emap shareholders "as soon as practicable".
