LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — John Gibbs, Jr. threw a touchdown pass and ran for another to lead Alcorn State to a 56-16 rout of Southern on Saturday night.

Austin Howard connected with Justin Morgan for a 55-yard touchdown to give Southern an early 7-0 lead. Alcorn State scored on its next four possessions, capped by Gibbs' 5-yard touchdown pass to Alondrea Young and his 23-yard TD run to give Alcorn State a 28-7 lead.

Howard hit Willie Quinn for a 10-yard touchdown strike to pull Southern (2-3, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) within 28-16 at the break.

Anthony Williams III ran for two touchdowns to stretch the Braves' lead to 49-16 midway through the fourth quarter. Williams finished with 162 yards on 18 carries. Darryan Ragsdale added 138 yards rushing and one touchdown for Alcorn State (4-1, 2-0).
