MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Law enforcement officials are urging Vermonters to get rid of unwanted prescription medications to prevent them from being abused or misused.
The ninth annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is happening Saturday and sites around the state.
Residents can drop off their unwanted medications at various take-back locations, which can be found online at www.dea.gov.
The event last October collected almost 3,500 pounds of drugs in Vermont.
Attorney General Bill Sorrell says prescription drugs that remain in home medicine cabinets can be abused, misused and trafficked.
The program runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
