This is the second and final week of my 3-year-old Ethan's picks on the Book Beat. There are two other favorites of his he would like me to tell you about.

One of Ethan's favorite books was originally published the year I was born, 1964. It's Don't Bump the Glump by Shel Silverstein.
"Have you ever seen a Gritchen in your kitchen?
Dared to dance with the One-Legged Zantz?
Declined to dine with the Glub-Toothed Sline?" Isn't he wonderful? And this is the only collection of Silverstein's that he illustrated in full color. Ethan loves it. Your kids will too.

Ethan's second pick is The Jellybeans and the Big Dance by Laura Numeroff, Nate Evans and Lynn Munsinger. I had the pleasure of meeting Laura Numeroff last year, and bought this new one of hers when I saw it at the book store. I didn't think it would become a favorite of Ethan's because it wasn't about cars or Curious George. But he surprised me and took to the characters. Emily is a strong-willed, determined little girl who loves to dance and has to get used to the fact that her friends don't love it the way she does. They find something they do have in common - jellybeans. It may be the candy that Ethan likes, but whatever speaks to him, I like that he has a little variety in his reading.

So two thumbs' up for Don't Bump the Glump by Shel Silverstein and The Jellybeans and the Big Dance by Laura Numeroff.
