PRICE — Two people have been charged with manslaughter in connection with the December 2013 death of a Price man who overdosed on heroin.
Jason Jared Jaimez and Shelbi Elizabeth Mower, both 37, were also charged Friday in 7th District Court with distribution of a controlled substance. The charges against the pair are all second-degree felonies.
Jaimez and Mower recklessly caused the Dec. 23 death of 47-year-old Trevor Jay "TJ" Whiteside by supplying him with heroin, according to charging documents. It's the second time this month Carbon County prosecutors have used that legal theory to file a manslaughter charge against someone for providing drugs to a person who subsequently died.
On Sept. 5, Alejandra "Ally" Dunn was charged with distribution of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, and manslaughter, a second-degree felony. She is due in court Oct. 17 for a preliminary hearing.
Dunn, 27, is accused of recklessly causing the death of Anthony Joseph Compton on Aug. 3, 2013. Prosecutors say Dunn provided the 38-year-old South Jordan man with a lethal dose of oxymorphone, a semi-synthetic prescription painkiller.
Jaimez is scheduled to make his first court appearance on the manslaughter and drug distribution charges on Oct. 14. Mower's first court appearance is set for Nov. 3. A conviction on a manslaughter charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison.
