ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) — A Detroit-area girl with leukemia is having her dream of becoming a celebrity come true.
Thanks to the efforts of a Make-A-Wish Michigan, 10-year-old Emily Sobeck took a celebrity journey Friday that included bodyguards, adoring fans, a trip to the salon and a professional photo shoot.
And that was just the morning.
Emily was escorted from her Royal Oak elementary school by a phalanx of high school football players to a waiting limousine, which whisked her along her big day.
After lunch at her favorite spot, Emily is returning to school for a pep assembly at which Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison is to share a proclamation in her honor.
Finally, Emily heads to Macy's at the Somerset Collection mall to greet fans, sign autographs and shop for a ballgown.
