TUBA CITY, Ariz. (AP) — The Navajo Nation Supreme Court is considering whether a presidential candidate satisfies a tribal law's requirement that candidates fluently speak Navajo and understand it. The tribe's high court hears arguments in the case today. Defeated primary election candidate Dale Tsosie (SOH'-see) contends that Chris Deschene (des-CHEE'-nee) lied about being fluent when he entered the race.
FARMERVILLE, La. (AP) — The USDA says Foster Farms is recalling about 20 tons of frozen pre-cooked chicken products due to possible contamination with Listeria. The frozen Chicken Breast Grilled Strips product was produced on Aug. 5, and then shipped to retail warehouses in Utah and three other states.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Vail Resorts Inc. is planning to begin building lifts next summer to connect Canyons Resort and its newest acquisition, Park City Mountain Resort. Vail purchased Park City Mountain Resort earlier this month for $182 million from Powdr Corp. It resolved a legal battle between two ski titans and paved the way for the creation of what could be the country's largest resort.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert says the state has launched a criminal probe and two other misconduct investigations into a medical waste burning facility. The governor's office says officials are also investigating whether Stericycle violated emissions permits. The Utah Labor Commission is also investigating possible worker safety violations. Messages left with Stericycle were not immediately returned yesterday.
