GLENEAGLES, Scotland (AP) — Phil Mickelson rolled in a short birdie putt on the 18th hole to give him and Keegan Bradley a 1-up win over Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia at the Ryder Cup. The victory gave the Americans a 2 1-2 to 1 1-2 lead after the morning fourball matches.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Tony Stewart has told The Associated Press the crash that killed 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr. on a dirt track in upstate New York was "100 percent" an accident. Stewart spoke to the AP by phone from his home in Huntersville, North Carolina in his first interview since a grand jury decided against charging the NASCAR star in Ward's death.

CHICAGO (AP) — Kansas City can clinch an American League wild card spot with a victory tonight against the White Sox. The Royals also get into the postseason if Seattle loses at home against the AL East champ Angels.

DETROIT (AP) — The Tigers take aim at clinching the AL Central title when they host Minnesota tonight. Detroit has a two-game lead over Kansas City and can wrap up the division title with a win and Royals loss against the White Sox.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Slumping Oakland can wrap up an American League wild card spot with a little help tonight. First the Athletics have to beat the Rangers, then need the Mariners to lose to the Angels. Oakland heads into today's play having lost seven of its last 10 games.
