BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho health officials say an unusual respiratory virus that's been causing illness among children across the U.S. is in Idaho. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed the presence of the enterovirus D68. Officials say a child hospitalized in eastern Idaho tested positive for the virus. The child has recovered.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A new commission tasked with overseeing improvements to Idaho's public defense system is asking lawmakers to prioritize where the work should begin. Public Defense Commission member Molly Huskey says the commission can come up with strong recommendations for either minimum attorney standard or for needed contract terms but likely can't complete both before January.

SEATTLE (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service says it is extending the period for the public to weigh in on a proposal that would make permanent new restrictions on commercial video and photography in the nation's wildest areas. Under the plan, the agency said it would consider the nature of a proposed project before approving a special-use permit and charge fees of up to $1,500.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A young black bear that visited a northern Idaho middle school whose mascot is a grizzly bear has been captured and will be returned to the wild. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports Idaho Fish and Game officials tranquilized the bear after it climbed down from a large tree near Woodland Middle School in Coeur d'Alene yesterday.
