CINCINNATI (AP) — A shortage of drivers for southwest Ohio's largest private school bus company has caused major delays in transporting students.
Some parents say children have had to wait two hours at times to board buses provided by First Student when heading home from school. First Student provides contracted yellow bus service for the 33,000-student Cincinnati Public Schools.
The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1uIWEPn ) reports that First Student is blaming a driver shortage for the problems. The company doesn't know why there is a shortage, but First Student spokeswoman Julie Treon says the company had an "unexpected turnover of drivers this past summer."
First Student tried to relieve the problem by bringing in 40 drivers from Michigan and Wisconsin. But after Labor Day, many of the out-of-state drivers returned home.
